About

Hello, thank you so much for clicking on this page to get to know a little bit more about me. My name is GS Rhodes and I have been writing for as long as I can remember, scribbling stories on spare bits of paper and hoping to one day share them with the world. The DI Benjamin Kidd series is my first foray into Crime Writing, combining a love of where I have lived for most of my life with my love of a good mystery.

When You’re Smiling is the first book in the DI Benjamin Kidd series and something that I really enjoyed writing. As a pretty big reader of crime novels, I wanted to try my hand at it and this book felt like a really good place to start for this character.

Further Reading

If you enjoyed the DI Benjamin Kidd series there are so many other crime books out there that you can read, but if you want some personal recommendations, here are a few from me.

JD Kirk’s DCI Jack Logan series is a brilliant, long running police procedural set in Scotland. It has a great cast of characters and some properly creepy storylines. It gripped me from book one and hasn’t let up yet.

Will Harker’s Scott Jericho series is for the Jack Reacher loving crowd. It’s about disgraced detective Scott Jericho, a man from the travelling community with a very dark past. Gripping, dark, twists and turns like no other.

Alex Smith’s DCI Robert Kett series is another police procedural set in Norfolk featuring some of the cutest kids you are ever likely to find in crime fiction. (I know you’re not looking for that, but it is there and they really add to these stories in a big way!)

Clare Mackintosh is one of my favourite crime writers, I Let You Go and I See You are two of the most gripping books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. They are domestic crime novels with a police slant on them, because of Clare’s background in the Met. They are brilliant.

Harlan Coben is a big favourite of mine. I’ve not read all of his books but the ones that I have read are all kinds of gripping and brilliant. Big favourites for me would be Stay Close and Tell No One. I have The Boy From The Woods on my shelf ready for me to read and I am really looking forward to it.
